Dial S for Screen Studies is the annual screen studies conference run by the Sydney Screen Studies Network. For 2018 we invited presenters to speak to one of two streams: Current Approaches to Screen Theory and Intersections in Academic Research and Creative Practices.
Across two days experts in screen theory and screen practice from across Australia and the world will present on a number of panel topics, these include:
* Approaches to film form
* Evolving screen technology
* Aesthetics and space
* Transnational cinema
* Feminism and television
* Screen production research
* Exploring virtual realities
* Gender identities
* Emotion, cognition, affect and phenomenology
In addition to these highly engaging panels, there will also be a workshop on the science of pitching and there will be a number film screenings by screen studies practitioners / theorists across the program. Two round tables on screen theory and the intersections of theory and practice will give participants an opportunity to further and deepen the discussions raised in the panels.
We are also very fortunate to have Dr. Karen Pearlman of Macquarie University providing a keynote on the intersections of screen theory and her practice in her own work. With so much on offer Dial S for Screen Studies is a must for anyone who has an interest in screen practice and research.
