2017 Seminar Program: Intersections in Film and Media Studies

Here you can find the program and links to podcasts from the seminars held as part of the SSSN 2017 program. In 2017 the seminar series had an umbrella theme: Intersections in Film and Media Studies.

Intersections in Film and Media Studies explored the state of contemporary screen studies and screen culture. Developments in digital technologies, as well as rapid changes in production, distribution, and consumption patterns, mean that ‘cinema’ is an increasingly fluid term that moves across platforms, genres, and textual boundaries. Screen culture is also an inescapable part of the contemporary media environment, with a plethora of media objects moving across a variety of screens, technologies, and devices. Cinema and screen studies likewise possess a fluidity that encourages interdisciplinary approaches and collaboration. This program explored the transitional nature of contemporary screen studies and the movement of scholarship, theory, and ideas across its boundaries.

Each podcast episode features a film or media scholar presenting their cutting-edge research in the form of a short talk. The talk is followed by a Q&A session with another scholar in the field, who opens up the discussion to the audience present on the day. This podcast is made possible by the kind support of the School of the Arts & Media, UNSW Sydney.

All SSSN Events are held in Room 327, Robert Webster Building UNSW at 5pm, except for those held at WSU Parramatta City Campus (*), UTS Building 5 (**), Woolley Common Room, University of Sydney (***), and Macquarie University, E7B Building (^).
